Similarities and Differences with Dollarization

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) released a working paper on the 21st, comparing the trends of deposit dollarization and stablecoin inflows. The analysis, which included deposit data from over 130 countries and regions and stablecoin inflow data from 184 countries from 2017 to 2024, concluded that while both are driven by similar factors, there is a clear difference in how capital controls affect them.
