Over 1 million users in 7 months
Mercari announced on the 16th that the number of users of the "Bitcoin Trading Service" provided by Mercari's subsidiary Merccoin, which provides and develops blockchain services, has exceeded 1 million in 7 months.
Mercari has allowed users to open accounts since March of this year, and has attracted attention as the number of users exceeded 500,000 in just over 3 months since the service started.
According to monthly cryptocurrency trading data from the JVCEA (Japan Cryptocurrency Exchange Association), as of August of this year, there were approximately 7.6 million cryptocurrency accounts in Japan. As the number of users of Mercari's Bitcoin trading service has now exceeded 1 million, it accounts for a certain proportion of the total number of accounts in Japan.
According to Mercari, 81% of users have never traded cryptocurrency before.
Mercari's Bitcoin trading service is characterized by the fact that applications can be made in a short time through the Mercari app. In addition, the convenience of being able to purchase Bitcoin (BTC) using sales proceeds and points earned from buying and selling on Mercari is also well-received, and it can be said that this has greatly contributed to the creation of light cryptocurrency (virtual currency) users and their incorporation into the company's services.
In fact, Mercari has analyzed that 49% of users who purchased Bitcoin on Mercari have a Merpay balance, and the ability to use the sales proceeds is contributing to an increase in users.
Furthermore, it was revealed that 48% of users who sold Bitcoin subsequently made purchases through Mercari.
From these findings, it can be said that the launch of the Bitcoin trading service has led to the emergence of new circulation behaviors that have not been seen before within Mercari.

In a previous interview with Iolite, Keita Nakamura, CEO of Mercoin, which handles Mercari's cryptocurrency business, revealed that he is keeping an eye on Bitcoin payments as the next business strategy.
With a steady increase in users, it is possible that Bitcoin will also have a presence in the payment field in the future.
