On the 26th, Microsoft announced a partnership with French AI startup Mistral AI. Mistral AI's foundational models will be available through Microsoft's cloud service Azure.
Since 2019, the company has continuously invested more than $1 billion in OpenAI, known for ChatGPT, and its stock price has continued to soar, driven by price revisions to corporate software and cloud services.
The aim of this partnership is likely to be to provide a variety of foundational models to expand Azure's customer base.
Mistral AI uses open source and proprietary large-scale language models, but this is the first time that a proprietary model called "Mistral Large" has been made available.
The adoption of proprietary large-scale language models also has several benefits for companies that use them.
Specifically, the use of proprietary algorithms and data will enable the provision of unique features and services that are different from other companies and products, and because they are customized to meet specific needs, it will help establish a competitive advantage that other companies cannot easily imitate. The scope of use will also expand from the perspective of protecting intellectual property rights.
Although details have not been disclosed, Microsoft will also make a small investment as part of this partnership.
Such moves indicate that Microsoft will continue to actively invest in the AI field in the future.
