Ethereum is becoming an infrastructure that "doesn't depend on people." Vitalik talks about the future in 5 years | BitTrade Market Report

On April 20, 2026, Ethereum developer Vitalik Buterin gave a presentation at the Hong Kong Web3 Festival. Based on PANews's report, the central theme of his talk was the concept of "walkaway testing."

Simply put, the presentation aimed to create a state where Ethereum could continue functioning without problems even if the core development team were to disappear.

Rather than a mere technical update, it left a strong impression that the design was being re-evaluated based on the premise of "how Ethereum should survive in the long term." In particular, the way he organized changes in preconditions such as AI and quantum computing as a single trend represents a more in-depth discussion than before.
