It has been revealed that Republican presidential candidate and former president Donald Trump will be speaking at the cryptocurrency (virtual currency) conference "Bitcoin 2024" to be held in Nashville, Tennessee on the 27th of this month.
Trump will be speaking about "The Future of Bitcoin in the United States." The organizers of the conference announced this on the 10th.
Trump, who is running against Democratic President Joe Biden for the November presidential election, claimed to be a defender of cryptocurrencies at an event held in San Francisco last month. He has also strongly criticized the Democratic Party for trying to strictly regulate cryptocurrencies.
At a party for his NFT buyers held at Mar-a-Lago, he said, "We are witnessing something incredible. It's cryptocurrencies. Looking back at cryptocurrencies a few years ago, people were saying they wouldn't be successful, but now they're at record numbers. It's a form of currency. I'm for it."
However, on the other hand, he is opposed to the digital dollar, which is a CBDC (central bank digital currency).
Following the collapse of major cryptocurrency-related companies such as FTX in 2022, the exposure of fraud and misconduct, and the loss of millions of investors, the cryptocurrency industry is focusing on influencing US politicians as regulatory scrutiny, including the SEC (US Securities and Exchange Commission), is intensifying.
The conference organizers explained on their official website that "former President Trump expressed his support for the US Bitcoin industry in May of this year, advocating financial freedom and the growth of the US Bitcoin industry on the global stage," and that he was the main character of the event.
Towards the development of cryptocurrencies in the US
Trump has also recently claimed that he wants to see further development of Bitcoin mining by US companies. In June, Trump said on Truth Social, a social networking site he runs, "We want all remaining Bitcoin mining to be carried out in the United States."
A few years ago, Trump denounced Bitcoin as "a fraud against the US dollar" and "cryptocurrency will bring about disaster," but he has now changed his stance and is showing a favorable attitude.
Trump's $12 million tech fundraiser in San Francisco in June was attended by crypto industry leaders, including executives from Coinbase and crypto investors and Gemini founders and CEOs Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss.
Coinbase donated $25 million in June. The Winklevoss brothers donated $1 million worth of Bitcoin each, and Kraken CEO Jesse Powell donated $1 million. He criticized the Biden administration for allowing a "campaign to regulate crypto unchecked by enforcement."
The White House, led by Democratic President Biden, claims to be eager to work with Congress to develop a regulatory framework for crypto assets.
President Biden is also considering making donations in Bitcoin and crypto assets during his reelection campaign, following in Trump's footsteps. As a result, the Democratic Party is also changing its stance on crypto assets.
