On the 16th, the Japan Cryptocurrency Business Association (JCBA) announced the launch of a new blockchain game subcommittee.
In launching the blockchain game subcommittee, major domestic game companies such as Square Enix, Konami, and Sega participated. Coincheck also participated as a cryptocurrency (virtual currency) exchange company.
In its announcement, JCBA noted that in recent years, with the emergence of blockchain games that utilize cryptocurrencies and NFTs in games, creators have begun to challenge themselves in developing new game titles, but that they are required to proceed while complying with laws, taxes, accounting, security, etc., and therefore there is no environment in which development can focus on creativity and users.
Then, it explained that with the establishment of the subcommittee, it will organize the issues facing blockchain games and make cross-industry proposals to solve these issues, thereby creating an environment where creators can concentrate on creating games. It also stated that it aims to find a new form of entertainment called blockchain games and spread them appropriately and healthily as a new area of the cryptocurrency and game industry.
Coincheck's president, Tomoyuki Isaka, was appointed chairman of the subcommittee, while Square Enix's Blockchain Entertainment Division Director, Keisuke Hata, was appointed vice-chairman.
Going forward, the subcommittee will discuss a wide range of topics, including business models for blockchain games and solving issues in related businesses, as well as attracting customers, accounting, taxation, and law, and will make public its recommendations.
