[NEWS] French gaming giant Ubisoft releases first blockchain game

First Web 3.0 game from a major gaming company

On the 10th, Ubisoft, a major game company based in France, announced that it will release the first game using Web 3.0 technology. The game is based on Oasys, a game-specific blockchain from Japan.

Ubisoft is a major game company known for popular series such as "Assassin's Creed", "Far Cry", and "Tom Clancy". The company's first Web 3.0 game, "Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles", will be deployed on Oasys' layer 2 chain, HOME Verse, and is scheduled to be released on the 23rd of this month.

Last year, Ubisoft announced at IVS Kyoto that it would begin production of its first Web 3.0 game, "Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles", attracting a lot of attention. The fact that a major game company is finally entering the blockchain game market will lead to mass adoption of Web 3.0, and it is expected that attention will be focused on its movements.

In addition, Ubisoft will release a 10,000-piece PFP collection, "The Worlords," in the third quarter of 2023. In July of this year, a 75,000-piece champion mint was held, both of which were record-breaking successes.

Currently, the game has more than 100,000 followers on X and more than 50,000 followers on Discord, and the release comes at a time when expectations for the official release were at their peak due to the success of the closed alpha and beta tests.

The success of the game has also led to Japanese companies entering the market

"Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles" is a PvP tactical RPG developed with ideas from classic strategy board games and modern turn-based RPGs. Players will form teams of mythical champions, challenge other players in tactical battles, and explore the legends of the dark and mysterious world of Grimoria.

"Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles is designed to blend Web 3.0 technology into the background. We aim to enhance gameplay so you can fully immerse yourself in the game and enjoy the strategy," said Nicolas Pouard, VP of Ubisoft, in a statement.

Through its partnership with Ubisoft, which is also a validator of the Oasys chain, Oasys has pursued new possibilities for blockchain games.

In this game, Ubisoft's know-how in high-quality Web 2.0 game development and Oasys' blockchain technology will be combined to provide a unique blockchain game experience, aiming to attract new gamers, including Web 2.0 game users, to Web 3.0 games. If this attempt is successful, it will be a trend for major Japanese game companies to enter Web 3.0 games.
